Flying G-ERTE  2008
Adrian's Sky Ranger
08/06/08
Donna (Graham's girlfriend) visited for the weekend with her children Sienna and Christopher.
Perfect weather and two fly ins available!
Sienna and I flew up to Sturgate in G-ERTE and Christopher flew with Graham in his Cessna 150. Poor Donna
had to drive up to join us. What a great day with brass band, bunting, barbecue and over 90 planes to drool
over.
After a superb Spitfire fly by at 14:30 we all went off to different aircraft to fly on to Breighton. It was Christophers
turn to come with me in G-ERTE. Christopher took the controls on the way.
Breighton as always gave a great welcome and there seemed to be over 50 aircraft there.
Who said GA is
dying!!
Got back to Aubourn International at 18:30 coffee with Philip in the evening sun and then back for a bottle (or
two) with Val and Graham to celebrate. A perfect days flying!

Another beautiful day!
Mowed the runways, then off with Val for a visit to Caunton.
What a nice place to fly into on a Summers evening. Coffee with
friends on the terrace (posh new furniture), then back into the
sunset.
There has not been much flying this Spring but G-ERTE now has
110 hours on the clock.

Lovely flight with Val over The Peak District to visit my brother at
Nantwich.

A beautiful evening so up for 20 minutes to get a couple of nice
pics of Harmston from the air.

Annual permit to fly inspection over at Caunton. Andy looked at G-ERTE last week and identified quite a few jobs to be done. New rubber
seals on the carbs (old one split) , replace choke elbow to carb (old one fractured), replace saddle washers to rudder with regular
washers per HADS, replace saddle washers to rudder and to flap lever (old ones cracked), loose spat needed re-fixing, and a few other
minor bits and bobs. I took the opportunity to replace the chrome decals that had faded; thanks Jason for supplying new stripes.  The test
flight was a dream and so she is permitted for another year.
This coming weekend is Waddington Airshow so no flying (6Mile exclusion zone and we are only 2 miles away!).
This years show is the 90th anniversary of the RAF so some special moments recorded below.

A beautiful Summers day. So off at 9:00am for a trip with Val
to Cromer. We got a MATZ clearance to cross Waddington
zone at 9:10. Routing via Metheringham and Fenland, we
cleared Kings Lynn and are running along the coast at
1,500ft only to be met by a huge fog bank! Aborted flight plan
and returned to Fenland, where we were made very
welcome. Met a nice young guy and his Mum flying their
Robinson R22 to Yarmouth, had coffee with them while we
waited for the fog to lift. Finally got away at 11:30 and arrived
to a great welcome at North Repps at 12:30. Spent the
afternoon in Cromer; lunch at Mary Janes fish restaurant,
followed by a walk along the beach and pier. Ordered
Cromer dressed crab to bring home. One of the fun things
at NorthRepps is ordering a personalised mug with photo
(we will wait and see what the mugs look like).
Great flight back to Aubourn . G-ERTE now has 120 hours
on the clock.

Graham called to ask if I would like to fly with him into
Cranwell's fly in (invitation only).
We should have won a prize for shortest flight of the day, 6
minutes from his strip and we were deadside Cranwell.
Despite thunder storms it was a great afternoon, with some
superb flying demonstrations. Some very special aircraft in
attendance, ranging from Yaks to Moths.

Harmstock 2008! Our village has an annual music
festival. Dave and I flew over and got a couple of pics
of the pub. Today started with the big breakfast in the
village hall, followed by afternoon tea up at Temple
Bruer then onto the music and fireworks this evening.
The pub was packed and there were 5 bands giving it
their all. Great day!! Thanks to Julie and Alison at the
pub.
A misty, still evening in Lincolnshire. We heard on the radio that there
was a balloon festival over at Chatsworth, so off Val and I went to see if
we could get some pics.
Although it was pretty dull, Val managed to get a couple of nice shots,
shown below.
14/09/08
Nice evening so over to Skeggie with Val to see the
amazing windfarm being built out in the North Sea.

Lovely trip up to Eddsfield on The Yorkshire Wolds with Val.
Eddsfield is 500ft AMSL with spectacular views of the deep
cut chalk valleys all around.
Humberside radar was incredibly busy and were unable to
give RIS.
On the way back Scampton was having an airshow so we
had to route down the West side of the Trent to avoid.
Dec 08
Quite a bit of flying this December. Including a trip over Alecs' farm (see
above right) to get photo's to give him for Xmas, thanks to Shan for doing
the camera.

Formed fillets cut and bent from left
over scraps of perspex.
Then used velcro to attach them just in
front of upper door.
Result is even more draught proofing.
Nice and toasty this Winter!
