Flying G-ERTE
24/05/06
Andy has been in the left hand
seat until today. We finally got our
5 hours up with me in the left
hand seat for the last hour.
She handles beautifully and
flying her is a delight.
I screwed up big time with a
stalling turn (by putting in
opposite aileron) and nearly
stuffed her into a spin!! Thank
goodness Andy was with me to
get me out of the sh**. Mind you
she recovered elegantly. GOOD
PLANE BAD PILOT!!!

At 90mph and over the
windscreen tended to bow and I
reckon it would lead to early
cracking.
Paul Dewhurst recommended I
instal a front screen batten. I
wish this had come with the kit
as it was a pain to install. I had to
drill out the rivets of the top
screen batten, remove it in order
to fit the front batten to it.
A job well worth doing and the
screen now seems to be as
solid as a rock.

longer jaunt with Val. Down to
Melton Mowbray; over Belvoir
Castle and back.

Ready to go.

OH MY GOD!!!
The RAF have invited me to
display G-ERTE at Waddington
airshow. Over 100,000 visitors
potentially seeing my baby.
It is a strange experience landing
on nearly 2 miles of runway but
all went reasonably O.K.
Tower asked me to backtrack
and clear at first exit left. This
was about 400m away and
another aircraft was already on
finals. Did you know that a
SkyRanger can taxi at 85Knots!!!!
Forgot the camera but will add
photo's over the next couple of
days.

I fitted the spats too low at the
rear and they dragged on the
ground when I did a tail down
landing. Obviously they were not
going to survive this abuse for
too long. So I took them off and
filled the mounting slot with
aluminium mesh and fibreglass
then cut a new mounting slot to
angle the rear of the spat
upwards. This has significantly
strengthened the spats and they
look good too.

Sara (our daughter) and Hannah
and Amy (our Grand daughters)
came to stay this weekend.
The weather was good so it
was off to the airfield for some
jollies.
(see pics)

See how the spats are now angled up
